C Corporation Tax Preparation Services
Prepare for a Form 1120 engagement: reconcile corporate books, owner transactions, tax payments and state filing scope with AE Tax Advisors.
Start with the corporation’s filing profile
A C corporation files its own income tax return. Return preparation should connect the legal entity, tax classification, accounting period and books before anyone models the shareholder’s separate tax position. An LLC taxed as a corporation needs its election history reviewed; the letters LLC do not identify the correct return.
AE scopes corporate preparation around the entity’s records and filing obligations. Confirm the tax year, federal and state forms, bookkeeping readiness and review responsibilities in your written engagement.
What to bring to a Form 1120 preparation review
- Prior federal and state returns, extensions, notices and tax-payment confirmations.
- Year-end balance sheet, profit and loss statement, trial balance and reconciled bank and credit-card accounts.
- Fixed-asset schedules, purchase documents, improvement costs and asset-disposal records.
- Ownership records, corporate elections, shareholder loans, contributions and distributions.
- Payroll reports, officer compensation, employee benefits and transactions with related businesses.
- Business locations, sales by state, property locations and any foreign ownership or cross-border activity.
Identify missing records before fixing a filing date. Bookkeeping cleanup, historical reconstruction and specialist international filings may need separate work.
Keep corporate and shareholder reporting connected
Review officer pay, payroll reporting, loans and distributions together. A transfer from the corporate account is not automatically a deductible business expense. Corporate taxable income and a shareholder’s personal taxable income are separate calculations.
For example, an owner who paid corporate expenses personally should bring receipts and the reimbursement or loan records. The preparer needs the actual transaction history to determine its treatment rather than simply netting every transfer against revenue.
Define the deliverables and exclusions
Ask the engagement to identify the federal return and schedules, each state return, elections requiring review, tax-payment instructions, signature authorization and proof of accepted electronic filing. Identify who resolves rejected filings and how the final return package is delivered.
Discuss estimated payments and extensions before the relevant deadlines. A filing extension does not generally extend the time to pay. Corporate deadlines depend on the tax year and applicable rules, so confirm them for your entity.
Review published fees and engagement scope. Corporate preparation, bookkeeping cleanup, amendments and advisory work should be separately identified where applicable. This page does not establish a fixed quote or include every possible corporate filing.
Choose the service for the actual entity
- S corporation return preparation for an entity with S status.
- Partnership and multi-member LLC preparation for partnership-classified entities.
- Correcting a previously filed C corporation return.
- C corporation planning for entity and distribution decisions beyond preparation.
